A collaboration between Stefan Borselius, Thomas Bernstrand and Johan Lindau, the Able Stand from Blå Station came into being after the trio questioned the functional purpose of design. “Can something feel so natural, so utterly obvious that it simply works — exactly as we hoped, or perhaps even better? Can function be almost invisible, quietly beautiful, and still exceed every expectation?” were some of the questions they considered when developing the Able Stand.
Sharing a conviction that nine out of 10 coat stands prioritize appearance over function, demanding attention rather than serving its purpose, the three designers conceived the Able Stand as a workhorse that can hold up to fifty or sixty jackets without compromising its appearance.
Part of the larger Able family — which includes multiple chairs and tables that share a visual language built around a scaffold-like design — the Able Stand from Blå Station is intended to quietly inhabit a space, becoming a part of the room rather than an object placed there.
While its sculptural quality does have a strong visual impact when bare, it’s considered more of a gesture — one that invites a plethora of jackets, coats, bags, umbrellas, totes, and scarfs to be hung from its structure.
The Able Stand from Blå Station is made from recycled steel tubes in lacquered or chromed finishes: As with the other members in the Able family, it is available in a range of painted steel colour options with fine textured or glossy finishes that range from White, Light Grey and Black to Tomato Red, Midnight Blue, Pink, Yellow and more.
Signature die-cast zinc joints and feet complete the refined industrial look; a black alkaline finish is available for the fittings and feet.
