Starting out as plug-and-play alternative to clunky kitchen vent hoods, this sleek little number by Ozonos quickly proved to be effective for ridding the air of not only cooking odours, smoke and aerosolized fats but also mould spores, allergens, viruses, germs and VOCs. The brainchild of two Austrian interior architects – Thomas Brunauer and Fredy Schecher – the AC-1’s compact cylinder can tackle spaces up to 92 square metres in one hour and is filter-less, relying instead on a UV-C tube bulb (with an 8,000-hour lifespan) that produces safe amounts of ozone to alter the chemical composition of airborne pollutants.
Bluetooth enabled, it’s made from recycled materials (and is itself 96 per cent recyclable), measures in at 40-centimetres long and weighs just under six pounds, meaning it can easily be moved from room to room when needed. Recently made available in North America, the units are offered in white, black and grey.
