When New York-based designer Adam Tihany and Italian lighting brand Contardi began working on the development of a new lighting fixture, both wanted to explore the concept of sustainable “green” lighting.
Determining that eco-friendly lighting should have a reduced environmental impact that is measured through energy efficiency, a sustainable power source and specially curated materials, the Air suspension light was the result.
Combing an appreciation for design with this ecological ethos, Air is made from Green Cast – a 100 per cent recycled and recyclable acrylic material that reduces the need for and reliance on raw materials. The fixture’s warm cream-coloured finishing is an effect of the manufacturing process, which requires no lacquering stage.
The dual circular shades of Contardi’s Air suspension light feature an orderly arrangement of intricate laser cuts that help filter the illumination if the opal white diffuser (also made from Green Cast) in an interesting way; available in two sizes (SO Small and SO), the lager of which has a double emission light.
