Developed in collaboration with Foster + Partners Industrial Design, the new Area collection from Kettal is a modular series of structural columns, tabletops and integrated accessories designed to be adaptable in a variety of a settings.
The Area collection from Kettal is intentionally named to reflect the surfaces where people create, collaborate and work; the sleek system is suitable for use in a range of busy environments, from meeting rooms and co-working spaces to libraries and cafés.
The collection was realized through iterative prototyping in which the design team explored proportions, diameters, surface textures of the columns and the scale and geometric makeup of the tabletops.
The Area collection from Kettal features an aluminum column as the main structural element that accommodates power, data and lighting infrastructure. This columnar feature can be specified in three diametres — 9, 16 and 45 centimetres — and can enable different spatial configurations, including both seated and standing tables.
Multiple module sizes and shapes are available for the tabletops, including round, rhomboid and triangular formats. A cleverly concealed J-profile aluminum beam introduces reliable structural support as well as enabling easy assembly. Continuous cable management is integrated within this beam structure, allowing for an optional power provision system to create tables that are ready to accept and access installed technology.
Adding to the versatility of the Area collection from Kettal is portfolio of materials available for the tabletops: timber, linoleum, melamine and Fenix. Larger tabletops for conference or statement tables can also be formatted with terrazzo or marble surfaces. Meanwhile, the structural components are available in a variety of anodized and powder-coated finishes.
The Area collection from Kettal also includes a series of accessories to increase the functionality and personalization of each setup. Optional accessories include a fabric screen divider, integrated lighting and a concealed grommet for power components like plug sockets, USB-C, cable arrangement and data power.
