The AZURE Houses issue returns in 2026 with stunning, innovative residential projects from Canada and around the world. Plus, we take a look at that seeming relic of the past: the mall.

Astro Freestanding Sink by Antonio Lupi

With a unique top surface reminiscent of a partially melted ice cube, the Astro freestanding sink by Italian designer Marco Piva for Antonio Lupi plays up the fluid and transformative nature of water. The sculptural form was achieved through a mould that was “pushed” by a stone from above, creating a stylistically signature look.

Combining technology and tradition, the sinks are made from Cristalmood resin that, after solidifying in its mould, is sanded and polished by hand to remove imperfections and produce a lustrous sheen – the process also means no two sinks will be exactly identical with subtle alterations in colour, size and thickness.

The Astro freestanding sink is equipped with LEDs for vibrant backlighting and the mechanical connections (drain and siphon) are cleverly concealed within the body so, although translucent, it retains its sculptural elegance. Available in 13 colourways, the unit can be combined with a freestanding or deck-mount faucet.
