Designed in collaboration with Los Angeles-based artist Jason Koharik, the Cavalo collection by Jessica Gersten Design expresses a sensibility and deep respect for process, material and a decidedly hand-crafted approach.
While developing the Cavalo collection, Jessica Gersten and Jason Koharik explored form, texture and structure informed by intuition. Produced in Portugal, the Cavalo collection is named for the Portuguese word for horse and utilizes horsehair as both material and metaphor.
Balancing strength and delicacy, tension and movement, the Cavalo collection by Jessica Gersten has an unexpected resonance that questions what can be shaped and choregraphed.
Along with woven horsehair, the six lighting fixtures in the Cavalo collection are crafted from a combination of solid antique brass and hand-sculpted alabaster and are inspired by elements of high-end fashion. Refined and emotionally expressive, the six fixtures include a ceiling lamp, floor lamp, two pendants, a sconce and a table lamp, allowing for the artisanal pieces to be introduced in a variety of capacities.
Warm and creamy, the sculpted alabaster has a dreamy glow when illuminated that complements the texture of the natural horsehair. The geometry of each lighting fixture is at once orderly and surprising, creating a playfully elegant tension.
The Cavalo collection by Jessica Gersten Design is available exclusivily at New York gallery StudioTwentySeven.
