The Colorwash collection of bespoke wallpapers by Brooklyn-based Calico Wallpaper was inspired by the way colour is diffused through sun rays on a cloudy day. 

Using soft washes of colour and layers of chalk pastels on a textured background, creative director Rachel Cope and her team have created appropriately hazy yet impactful backdrops that establish a serene setting. 

The process perfectly recreates the effect of light emerging through particles, bringing depth through the muted tones. 

Based on original artwork by Cope, the eight colourways (Transcend, Diffuse, Evolve, Evanesce, Arise, Vanish, Ascend and Wisp) included in the collection are reminiscent of varying natural lighting experiences, from a glimpse of moonlight in a cloudy night sky to the dreamy moment when sun emerges at dawn.

The custom-sized murals are made from Type II PVC-free vinyl.
