To celebrate its 20th anniversary, British furniture and lighting design studio Pinch unveiled its new multi-piece collection – which includes the Colton dining chair – during a pop-up installation at New York City’s Jacqueline Sullivan Gallery in Tribeca.
Pinch was founded by Russell Pinch and Oona Bannon in 2004, and is renowned for its heirloom-quality pieces that are rooted in simplicity, pure forms, quality craftsmanship and an exquisite material palette.
The brand’s most extensive release to date, the collection involved a number of new lighting fixtures, tables and a sideboard, along with the Colton dining chair – the lighting and furniture maker’s second-ever dining chair after its popular Avery chair.
An effortless blending of elegance and substance, the Colton dining chair from Pinch features slender turned oak legs that are detailed with subtle grooving and contours. Each back leg is topped by a perfect sphere, which draws attention to the seat’s hand-crafted composition.
Colton’s simple silhouette is appreciated from both the front and back, while its scrolled leather sling back with structured curve adds a sculptural twist and extra dimension. Pinch collaborated with an expert London-based leatherworker to ensure that the saddle-hide seat and back are stitched directly to the sophisticated frame, furthering its expression of fine craftsmanship.
The made-to-order Colton dining chair from Pinch is available in European oak with a white oil finish and Bitter Chocolate (dark brown) leather seat and back, or in Black American walnut with a clear oil finish and tan leather seat and back (other leathers can be selected for each version for a minimum order quantity). Both leather options are vegetable-tanned using tannins from natural plant sources to achieve a deep colour that will richen with age.
