Designed by Sandro Meneghello and Marco Paolelli for Italy’s Scab Design, the Flap outdoor collection is a modular system that intersperses upholstered elements with supportive flat surfaces.
Founders of the Milan-based studio Meneghello Paolelli, the designers created the system with a moveable backrest – the namesake flap – that sits snuggly on an open tubular structure, offering additional support to the cushions. The four individual modules that comprise the collection – one with a lefthand arm, one with a righthand arm, one without arms and a table – can be arranged and rearranged at will to create straight runs or lounge-like set-ups; the tables can be integrated at any point they are needed.
Suitable for use in both residential and commercial settings, the Flap outdoor collection is flexible and sophisticated, combing open voids with soft upholstered volumes to play with a contrasting sense of lightness and emptiness.
Recalling flaps on aircraft wings in form, the perforated metal backrests have a minimal profile and can rotate on their axis by approximately 15 degrees. This feature allows for back cushions to be inclined in different positions to optimize the comfort of the sitter. Cushion covers can be removed for cleaning.
The tubular steel frame structure that wraps around the Flap outdoor collection can be polyester powder-coated in Linen (VL), Dove Grey (VT), Terracotta (VE), Anthracite (VA) and Mocha (VK), while the coordinating occasional tables can be topped with a matching HPL surface or with one of three stone-effect laminate options, Grit, Dove-Grey spatula or Black Sahara marble. Multiple upholstery options are available.
