Located in Bradford, Vermont, small-batch slow-furniture maker GRAYN handcrafts its timeless pieces to be modern heirlooms. From its 95 per cent-solar powered workshop, the dedicated team of skilled artisans and woodworkers sources local materials (within 500 miles), including premium textiles and sustainable solid hardwoods. Its flagship Join bedroom collection epitomizes the brand’s eco-conscious ethos and well-crafted designs.
Designed by Brooklyn-based Joel Edmondson, GRAYN’s Join bedroom collection “celebrates the function of connection” through its intentionally hidden joinery, with exposed spaces between implying lightness and simplicity.
Comprised of a bed, a tall dresser, a wide dresser, a bedside table and a nightstand, the collection is sophisticated and pared-back and steps away from the bulk and heft of more traditional bedroom furniture. When designing the series, Edmondson saw an opportunity to highlight the different components by deconstructing them – the floating headboard is disconnected from the bed frame by way of custom-milled metal splines.
The plain yet simply beautiful headboard can be left exposed or affixed with a cushion (in linen or bouclé) by handsome leather straps (Mesquite Brown for the bouclé or English Chestnut for the linen).
Join dressers feature outset dowel-like legs with blackened wood pulls for contrast, while the bedside table has an upper drawer with exposed rather than hidden slides (also in blackened wood) and an open lower shelf; the nightstand is composed of two gently rounded boxes separated by blackened wood spacers, with the upper box having an open back to accommodate and conceal electrical cords.
Made from solid oak in Light or Shadow finishes, the Join bedroom collection is the first from GRAYN and exemplifies its adherence to long-lasting pieces and ethical sourcing.
