With the Kari side tables for Kettal, German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic explores traditional African design influences through a modern perspective, drawing on historic sculptural forms and objects to realize two distinct geometric versions. 

The two highly versatile side tables that comprise the Kari collection from Kettal share a simple and smooth circular top that is paired with one of two different base shapes – cylindrical and pyramidal. 

Expressing strong personalities, both variations were designed by Konstantin Grcic for interaction, with their lightweight construction allowing them to be freely and easily moved around a room as needed; the tables are also sturdy enough to be used as stools for extra seating. 

Currently made from solid teak, the small-scale totem-like tables were devised by Grcic to be modular and adaptable, allowing for the accommodation of various other materials in the future. In the current material, the organic texture and characterful graining impart a natural aesthetic. 

The circular tabletop is mirrored by a smaller disc-shaped bottom platform that ensures stability and introduces another geometric element to the perfectly proportioned tables. 

While the cylindrical version has a compelling and inviting softness in its rounded elements, the pyramidal iteration expresses movement through the angular and protruding pieces. Strong enough to stand on their own, the two Kari side tables from Kettal make equally impactful partners.
