Lamorisse by Pedrali

Lamorisse collection, designed by CMP Design for Pedrali, debuted in 2022 with an outdoor armchair characterized by an aluminum frame — ideal for a waterfront veranda, shaded outdoor areas, a poolside table and even on a ship deck.

Its lightweight extruded aluminum structure, with oval legs welded to round tube armrests, holds a large and enveloping cushion. The main feature of this armchair is the contrast between the sober shape of the supporting frame and the plush cushion.

The seat is supported by elastic belts that offer maximum comfort and strength, which almost disappear to focus the attention on the cushion, consisting of multiple sections joined by a zip and folded to create a shell.

With Lamorisse, the cushions can be removed with ease, and the frames can be stacked. This facilitates storage and handling and allows the upholstery to be refurbished without having to replace the entire product. All the elements of the product are distinct, independent and detachable, for simplicity of separation at end of life.

“When we drew the first sketches of Lamorisse, we started comparing it to a balloon. In the same way as a helium balloon is tied to a string, this chair has a soft, coloured, suspended part (the seat), which is connected to a thin, string-like part (the supporting structure),” CMP Design explains. “This brought to mind the beloved French director Albert Lamorisse who, in his beautiful short film “Le Ballon rouge”, brings to life a red balloon that befriends a little boy named Pascal. In the final scene, Pascal flies off into the sky, holding onto a string that ties together all the balloons in Paris.”

At Salone del Mobile 2023, Pedrali introduced Lamorisse Wood for indoor use, featuring an ash wood frame which echoes the outline of the aluminum armchair. This natural evolution of the Lamorisse armchair springs from the desire to offer the same level of comfort indoors and to provide a complete collection of seating that can be used in spaces characterized by indoor-outdoor continuity.

In 2024, the collection has been further enriched with a lounge armchair and two-seater sofa, conceived to be used in indoor environments, especially hotels or workspaces.

The wooden versions are characterized by a solid frame featuring rounded armrests in steam-curved ash wood, jointed to the oval-shaped legs. A thin metal frame supports the seat while elastic belts and non-deformable polyurethane foam guarantee a high level of comfort. Both seat and backrest cushions have removable covers and are linked together by a zip.

The Lamorisse Wood Lounge and Sofa are made using FSC C114358-certified wood and water-based coatings composed mostly of plant-derived resins. The use of raw materials sourced from responsibly managed forests and water-based coatings demonstrates Pedrali’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

All elements may be easily disassembled for recycling or to replace their components.
