A collaboration between Venice-based designer Luca Nichetto and New York-based contemporary lighting manufacturer Matter Made, the Legato lighting system includes transformative single- or double-strand pendants and chandeliers.
Developed over seven years, the Legato lighting system by Luca Nichetto and Matter Made takes its name from an Italian musical reference that indicates a smooth and unbroken connection of notes. Realized in physical form, this composition plays out in a series of conical shades that are anchored to a rigid aluminum structure.
With the Legato lighting system, each note is “tied together” while also allowing for a variety of unique and individually composed arrangements. The conical shades were designed to be double directional, meaning the light source can be cast up or down – or in both directions at once – and creates a play of reflections and shadows between the individual cones. This interplay beautifully and effectively emphasizes the volume of each cone.
A modular lighting system, Legato by Luca Nichetto is a highly customizable collection that can expand or contract virtually without end, and can create dynamic and tailored installations or architectural walls of bi-directional illumination.
The Legato lighting system is made from aluminum and brass in a Textured Graphite finish; the circular diffusers are made from acrylic; the string pendant includes 10 cone shades, but can be customized with more or less.
