Lodes Volum lighting by Snøhetta shown in a cluster above a reception desk

A first-time collaboration between Italian lighting specialist Lodes and international architecture and design studio Snøhetta, Volum is an expressive and elegant modular pendant collection that was inspired by Italy’s traditional glass-blowing techniques.

The pendant series has a modern architectural sensibility while highlighting the imperfect beauty of the hand-crafted process. Intended to fill the need for “contextually adaptable and scalable” lighting solutions, Volum is designed to entirely fill a space with uninterrupted, 360-degree illumination.

Casting a uniform and calming radiance in every direction, the four differently sized globes in the Volum lighting series harmoniously complement one another in form and function.

Each glossy white-finished diffuser and frame appear as a uniform piece and is suspended from a whip-thin cable, giving installations a super-clean and streamlined look. The upper portion of the glass is cut at a 45-degree angle and sealed with a translucent methacrylate lid.

A metal element concealed within this lid contains the lighting source, leaving only a small opening for the cable to slide through and balance the globe. Power for Volum is run through a transparent cable and the lights can be ordered from Lodes to be hung individually or in a cluster on a canopy.
