Oversized and chunky, the Mario planters and pouffe designed by Alain Gilles for Greenmood make a strikingly graphic statement in workspaces, hospitality settings and other venues.
Made from cork by-products and cork bark that has been steam-heated to form solid blocks of expanded cork (sometimes referred to as smoked cork), the Mario planters and pouffes are manually carved into shapes reminiscent of the distinctive green pipes in the iconic Mario Bros arcade game – hence the collection’s name.
The indoor/outdoor planters also bring a dose of nature to interiors, both through material and function as vessels for lush greenery. Two sizes of planter are available to accommodate small and taller plants as well as trees.
The Mario pouffe, meanwhile, features are large rounded top-surface that provides a comfortable and supportive seat. As with the planters, the pouffe is suitable for use indoors and outdoors and can be used as an ottoman or small side table wherever needed.
Using expanded cork to make the Mario planters and pouffes means they also introduce an acoustic solution to interiors as the biophilic material has natural sound-absorbing attributes. Further, the production of cork has low environmental impact, and the material is recyclable and biodegradable, adding to the Mario planters and pouffe’s eco-friendly cred.
