When designing the Musina and Posso washbasins for Kreoo, Luca Nichetto tapped into deeply rooted memories of his birthplace — Venice, Italy — as conceptual inspiration, particularly the way architectural forms and precise designs merge with their watery surroundings.
Lending everyday objects from the lagoon city a creative new expression, Nichetto created the Musina and Posso washbasins with distinctive personalities, both of which reference the ornate historic Venetian well covers (or Vera da pozzo) that are found throughout the calli (the narrow pedestrian passages between buildings), campielli (the small courtyards and squares found throughout the labyrinthine streets) and courtyards of the city.
With the Musina and Posso washbasins, these traditional elements become contemporary design pieces that preserve and celebrate the essential qualities of beauty, solidity and a strong connection to water and stone.
Carved from a single block of marble, the Musina washbasin features a circular inner profile and an octagonal outer form with a pronounced upper rim; defined by it is expertly crafted contours, the basin is punctuated by subtle protruding panels at the corners.
Echoing that octagonal design, the Posso washbasin has a lovely sculpted quality with delicately concave external faces and a slender base trim combined to create a gently flared design.
The elegant structures of the Musina and Posso washbasins from Kreoo enhance the selected stones’ veining, lending each a unique expression.
Marble options include Bianca del Re, Rosso San Marco, Ceppo di Sicilia, Nero Grand Antique, Breccia Viola and Calacatta Carrara. While the washbasins — which are both countertop vessels — were influenced by ancient objects, they both possess a sense of modernity that brings a sense of calm and memory to contemporary spaces.
