Northport Luminaries by Robert A.M. Stern Architects for Landscape Forms

Designed in partnership with Robert A.M Stern Architects, the Northport luminaires from Landscape Forms gives a contemporary nod to traditional street lighting.

Like the other elements that are included in the expansive Northport collection – benches, large planters, litter bins, bike racks and decorative bollards – the street lamps were devised to fit into towns and cities where different architectural eras sit side-by-side by paying homage to the past while at the same time being thoroughly modern and relevant.

Robert A.M. Stern Architects was inspired by the classic acorn streetlamp when designing the Northport lights, giving them a silhouette that is both familiar and forward-thinking – rather than a nut-shaped glass globe, the lamps interpret the form through a negative space within the arms at the top of each structure.

Installed at the top of this open-air lantern, a clear or diffused lens (in multiple outputs and distributions) disperses a pleasant, low-glare illumination; an optional diminutive, advanced-technology LED element can also be added that calls to mind historic gas lamps or early filament bulbs, reinforcing a nostalgic connection and sense of place.

The versatile Northport pole and path lights are designed for applications up to 4.8 metres and include a variety of different versions — the area lights are available in both single and double pole-mount or pendant-arm-mount configurations that can have either clear or diffused lenses. Northport path lights cast warm illumination in asymmetric or symmetric distributions along footpaths and pedestrian promenades.

Performance of the street lighting is specific to a pedestrian scale, and the various models can be used to illuminate parking lots, streetscapes, transit and other environments where layered lighting applications are required.
