The Ollie console, designed by multidisciplinary studio Yabu Pushelberg for Glas Italia, is an extraordinary work of glass that intrigues with its seamless blending of asymmetry, balance and proportion.
A companion piece to Yabu Pushelberg’s previously designed Ollie vertical totem bookcase and end table for Glas Italia, the new Ollie console has a playfully off-kilter personality that belies its technical precision and sophisticated rigour.
Featuring the same technical feats as the vertical totem bookcase and end table, the all-glass Ollie console defies perception with its seemingly effortless expression that combines straight lines with a wondrously rounded portion.
Protruding from the top vertical run of the laminated extra-clear glass top, an open-ended extra-clear glass curved storage compartment appears to float effortlessly but is UV-bonded in place to ensure a secure connection.
Sitting atop the upper surface is a closed box with a push-pull drawer for concealed storage of smaller items; the glossy lacquered glass that covers this box is available in 20 colourways that range from rich and moody (like anthracite, iron and hazelnut) to soothing neutrals (including cream, cement and turtledove) and bold statement-makers (orange, fire red and apple green). The storage box can be situated to open from the front or the back.
The slender vertical-standing portion of the Ollie console by Yabu Pushelberg is made from laminated tempered glass that can be extra-clear or tempered glass in one of 12 transparent colourways (orange, amber, green, yellow sun, warm grey, orange red, cedar, blue water, lilac, pink aurora, red siena and deep blue).
Mirror-polished metal plates keep the top and stand affixed together (and are also the disassembly points if necessary) without infiltrating the streamlined design. Small adjustable feet help level the unobtrusive base, which is complete with a mirrored finish.
