London-based studio Industrial Facility designed the minimalist Plains & Pods system of seating, surfaces and planters for Landscape Forms to be highly adaptable and flexible for the user. A sibling series of complementary items, the collective pieces complement one another to create cohesive arrangements but can also be used independently as needed.
With the Plains portion, large-format platforms and trestles are rectilinear and architectural with varying heights and widths, providing the opportunity to form customizable settings of seating and surfaces.
Reading as a conventional bench, the Plains elements support laying down, perching, sitting cross-legged and aim to blur the division between what the Michigan-based manufacturer of outdoor products and lighting describes as “me space” and “we space”. Made from naturally weathering jarrah wood, powder-coated metal (in a range of colourway options) or a combination of both, the surfaces/benches can be placed side-by-side, layered or overlapped, branched, crisscrossed or stair-stepped to create site-unique setups. Optional metal backs and attachable side tables can be added.
With the Pods side, seating and planters have a curvilinear shape to counter the right angles of Plains pieces. The shapely modules can be grouped together in multi-layered clusters that bring ample moments of greenery to settings and can be arranged to encourage various levels of interaction – from large and communal zones, private areas to individual seats, the Pods elements invite social and aesthetic interest.
The different combinations that can be devised using Industrial Facility’s interactive and multi-dimensional Plains & Pods modular system are dynamic and welcoming, with the contrasting crisp lines and friendly curves bring visual richness and impact that enhances social experiences.
With Plains, both the large-format platforms and beams come in 238.7-centimetre lengths and varying widths and heights, while the Pods combine wood-slat tops and metal bodies (in a range of powder-coated colourways) in multiple heights and widths.
