Turkish designer Defne Koz has introduced a new colourway to her Plato collection of trays and organizers for Istanbul-based design brand Uniqka — a striking olive green that expands the existing warm earthy palette.
The award-winning Plato collection of trays and organizers was realized by Defne Koz (who runs her Milan-based studio Koz Susani Design with partner Marco Susani) and Uniqka through a material exploration that tested the limits of leather.
Taking inspiration from the centuries-old cuir bouilli technique (a leather boiling procedure dating back to the Middle Ages), Koz and Uniqka advanced the ancient leather shaping technique by combining it with more modern methods of cutting, dyeing and finishing the material’s edges to create objects that merge traditional craftsmanship with contemporary refinement.
Handcrafted using vegetable-tanned, eco-friendly leather, the 10 trays in differing sizes and shapes all feature raised rims that blend form with function; some of the trays also have subtle built-in dividers made from leather-wrapped anodized aluminum rods.
With the new olive-green trays, the raised rims are a finished in a complementary mink colour to lend a sophisticated earthy note to the small-item organizers; for the trio set of oval platters, the edges are also available in a contrasting bright pistachio colour, creating a visually striking group.
Corralling everyday objects like jewellery and glasses, pens and keys, phones, headphones and remote controls, candles and other tchotchkes, Uniqka’s Plato collection of trays and organizers makes organizing clutter an act of subdued elegance.
