With the Purbeck coffee table, British furniture maker Another Country celebrates not only materiality and form but also the region of England where it’s produced. An amalgamation of three geometric shapes and just as many materials, the low-profile contemporary table is compelling and completely original.
The Purbeck coffee table’s thin oval surface is made from smoothed maple wood and is placed atop one cylindrical marble leg and a square pippy oak one; the two rounded volumes contrast with the angular element in a unique expression.
Components are sourced in the West Country region of England to be as sustainable and characterful as possible: the generous cylinder of marble is from the 11th-generation Haysom Purbeck Stone quarry, whose expert craftspeople produce made-to-order pieces to minimize waste, and the local pippy oak wood is defined by its colour variations, a result of cattle grazing at the trees’ trunks, causing new shoots to grow that give the timber small knots and imperfections.
