Italian designers Matteo Thun and Benedetto Fasciana took inspiration from a tiny island in Italy when crafting their Salina collection for Gloster. The second largest island in the Aeolian archipelago just north of Sicily, Salina was formed through the activity of six ancient volcanoes thousands of years ago and now boasts a diverse array of flora, including ferns, caper bushes, prickly pear cactus, olives trees and more. 

When devising the Salina collection for Gloster, the two designers drew from the elemental materials and formations on the island, as well as from the resourcefulness and sparing nature of its inhabitants. Also influencing the design were the ubiquitous fishing nets that local anglers use to catch shoal, bream, mullet and other cuisine staples. 

The modular lounge pieces are composed around four teak poles that form the structural framework along with a streamlined platform. All-weather fibre-wrapped frames and open netting panels artfully connect the vertical posts; made from an innovative outdoor fibre, the mesh wrapping is characterized by a natural texture and lends the modules visual lightness when viewed from behind. 

Generously deep cushions fit snugly inside the teak perimeter, and optional scatter cushions can be incorporated to deliver an opulent level of comfort for extended lounging. An extensive range of colours in Outdoor Performance, Soft Touch and Water-Resistant upholstery options is available, allowing for tailored arrangements that coordinate with their surroundings. 

Modules in the Salina collection include a two-seater sofa, left and right chaises, right and left end units, a square corner unit, a lounge chair and two sizes of ottoman.

A series of teak coffee tables (round and square) and a round occasional table, each with a tessellating surface, are also available. All pieces have brushed stainless-steel foot caps that enhance their outdoor durability.
