Copenhagen-based industrial designer Thomas Bentzen has added another layer of comfort – and sustainability – to his award-winning Soft lounge chair for Danish furniture-maker Takt by introducing the option for a supple leather seat.
Maintaining the original’s composition, which drapes a moulded veneer seat and backrest over a solid wood framework, the new version is upholstered in the eco-conscious Dunes from Sørensen Leather, a rustic-looking leather has a velvety hand and will develop a natural patina over time; two combinations of wood finishes and leathers are available: oiled oak with Dunes in Cognac or black lacquered oak with Dunes in Black. To meet Takt’s rigorous environmental ethos, the wood is FSC-certified and the leather material has received the German Blue Angel Ecolabel and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.
In keeping with the brand’s Perpetual Sustainable Design philosophy – which ensures replacement parts to repair and extend the lifespan of existing products – customers who already own the previous version of the Soft Lounge Chair can order the new leather-wrapped seat component as an upgrade, rather than purchasing the complete furniture piece.
Arriving in a flat-pack, the handsomely designed lounge chair is easy to assemble and durable for use in both residential and commercial settings. Strong in character and generous in size, the timeless lounge chair embraces the sitter in its graceful ergonomic construction and is intended to be passed down through generations rather than discarded.
