A collaboration between New York-based RBW and Boston designer Kelly Harris Smith, the Spool acoustic pendant light fills a space with a large-scale playful design that delivers both effective illumination and an enhanced audio experience.
The cylindrical shape of the fixtures within the Spool collection is a sophisticated reference to the object the pendants are named for, and each has enough presence to stand alone or be arranged in groupings of multiples for added impact.
Engineered to mitigate acoustic reflections and disruptions of low-, medium- and high-frequency soundwaves, the Spool acoustic pendant light from RBW takes on a powerful role in creating a comfortable and atmospheric interior.
Cutting out the noise and clatter, the Spool acoustic pendant lights are padded with PU foam and then wrapped in Upbeat textile from Kelly Harris Smith’s Up collection (for HBF), which features an understated tight grid with subtle tonal shifts.
Inspired by the play of light and shadow filtering through scaffolding mesh, the Upbeat textile is made from 51 per cent post-consumer recycled polyester (derived mainly from recycled PET water bottles). Two colourways are offered for Spool – Crosswalk, a soft, soothing neutral grey, and the rich royal blue Playground – and the interior cone can be finished in either Grey or Graphite felt.
As well as being available in two widths and two heights, the Spool pendants can be configured with a range of temperatures – warm white, soft white, neutral white or cool white – and directions – Spot, Narrow, Narrow Flood or Flood – allowing for perfectly tailored illumination.
