With the Super Natural collection, designer and Luum Textiles creative director Suzanne Tick expresses the relationship between human and nature through a varied yet considered palette and modern interpretations on classic patterns. Focused on sustainability, the five eco-conscious fabrics are made with recycled, biodegradable and circular fibre systems wherever possible. Exploring the harmony between the organic and the manmade, the Super Natural collection balances warm and cool textures, black and white tones and soft nature-inspired hues with the more saturated colourways often found in fashion.
Taking inspiration from the inherent organizing principles of nature, the construction of classic Bauhaus weavings and the vibrant energy of 1960’s Op art, Rubric features a multicoloured block pattern that dynamically plays with scale and repetition. Combining complex melanges of North American wool in the weft, a recycled cotton blend warp and natural fibres, the soft and breathable double beam loom-woven upholstery fabric is suitable for all seasons and climates. Available in six colourways.
Contrast Slub is a dense and hefty textile that is luxuriously smooth to the touch. The organic, multi-coloured and stain-repellant surface makes an ideal and forgiving upholstery option that uses viscose and linen in the warp and chunky cotton in the weft; the resulting irregular slub effect creates an interesting contrast of colour and materiality. Available in 16 colourways.
With a rich and nubby texture, Everyday Boucle upholstery uses upcycled yarns for both the warp and weft for a hyper-textural wool blend and is a fine example of a circular recycled garment-fibre fabric. The pre- and post-consumer recycled wool, acrylic and polyester are sourced from apparel waste and require no additional water, dyestuffs or energy for production. Available in 22 colourways.
Lending a textural twist to classic woolen weave structures, Barberpole Basket is woven on a double-beam loom to create contrasting tones of intertwined yarns: Emphasizing the integrity and unique qualities of natural fibres, the material combines black and white cotton barberpole yarns that are comprised of recycled cotton and domestic wool. Available in 12 colourways.
Representing Luum’s third 100 per cent recycled, biodegradable polyester textile, Biotope has a subtle basketweave appearance and is a bleach-cleanable multipurpose fabric suitable for upholstery, wrapped walls, panels and screens. To accelerate biodegradation in anaerobic environments like landfills, the recycled cationic and disperse polyester fibres are treated with a bio-catalyst additive at the molecular level, which attracts microorganisms that break down the polymer chains (after approximately three-and-a-half years, only naturally occurring elements remain). Available in 15 colourways.
