When devising the Tessera rug collection for Milanese rug brand CC-Tapis, creative design studio Yabu Pushelberg mined ancient craft techniques for inspiration. The second collaboration between the two creative studios, the collection includes three distinct patterns: Tessera Offset, Tessera Overlay and Tessera Outcropped.

Appreciating that character comes with age, Yabu Pushelberg explored the intricate designs of Roman and Byzantine mosaics and translated them into a compelling rug series. Named for the small and typically square fragments of stone, glass or ceramic that comprise the mosaic floors found in temples and forums dating back to the 4th century BC, the patterns of the Tessera rug collection from CC-Tapis metaphorically and simultaneously link to ancient Roman culture and planetary geology.

Yabu Pushelberg reinterpreted these ancient motifs into contemporary designs that express dynamic and irregular patterns. Each rug in the Tessera collection is meticulously hand-woven by Indian artisans using traditional dhurrie weaving techniques on a horizontal loom.

With the Tessera Overlay rug, irregularly shaped geometric forms in varying depths of transparency and shades of colour are superimposed over each other to create a dynamic visual interplay. Tessera Overlay is available in Rust and Moka.

The Tessera Offset rug features a loosely structured collage of squares with hand-knotted edges that provide dimension and a sense of movement. Tessera Offset is available in Light Grey, Dark Grey, Brown Camel and Brown Light Blue.

Rows of asymmetrical rectangles form the motif for Tessera Outcropped, while the pale shades lend an almost monochrome effect. Tessera Outcropped is available in Natural and White.

The Tessera rug collection from CC-Tapis is part of the brand’s recently introduced ready-to-buy line of luxury rugs.
