Italy’s Needs Studio originally designed the Tidal collection for Lodes in 2023 as a ceiling-mount fixture. Now, the designers and the brand have introduced a pendant version of the distinctive ring-shaped lamp.
Inspired by the fluid movements of celestial bodies and the ebb and flow of ocean tides, both the ceiling-mount and new pendant version have an irregular and asymmetrical ring shape that subtly twists. Mimicking the motion of waves, one side of the ring is wider than the other, directly referencing low and high tide.
Thanks to this clever move, the appearance of the fixtures changes depending on the angle they are perceived from, creating a dynamic visual expression. Both the ceiling-mount and the pendant emit illumination simultaneously in two directions — downward and upward in a perfect 50-50 balance — and conceal the technical elements within the slim body, putting the focus entirely on the sculptural form of the fixture.
The intensity of the dimmable ceiling-mount and pendant is controlled by a wall switch, allowing for different atmospheres to be created, whether in a private residence or a hospitality or commercial setting.
Made from die-cast aluminum, the Tidal collection from Lodes is available in four captivating finishes: Matte Black, Matte White, Extra Matte Champagne and Terra Extra Matte. The pendant version is suspended from three slender and discreet steel cables, which are anchored to a single circular canopy (available in Matte White or Matte Black); the canopy has a smaller diameter than the fixture itself, lending it the impression of floating in place.
The cables can either be fixed standard (up to 400 centimetres in length) or adjustable; the retractable cables of the adjustable option are up to 150 centimetres in length and can be height-adjusted by pulling or pushing on the fixture itself.
