With his Tubes table collection for Serax, Sicilian artist and designer Antonino Sciortino transforms a humble and ubiquitous material – standard industrial pipes – into “small pieces of architecture” with a classic expression.
Known for this metal work, Sciortino often crafts objects from soft iron, hand-finishing them to lend a textural and soulful vintage effect. As with his other collections for the Belgian design brand, the Tubes tables make a sculptural and intriguing addition to a variety of interior spaces.
Each table surface is supported by a trio of differently shaped legs, adding a playful note to the conventional furniture. To achieve the individual legs, the designer sawed the metal tubes into distinct facets – some flat, some with a lip and still some kept circular.
The three universally appealing colours available – cream white, black and red – make the tables eye-catching without distracting from their pure geometric forms. Tubes will be available in September.
