The Typo lounge chair and ottoman are the newest members to join the Typo seating family from Italian office furniture-maker Mara. Designed by the creative team at AMDL Circle, the Milan-based multidisciplinary studio founded by architect Michele De Lucchi, the new iteration preserves the original design language while introducing an enhanced level of comfort and ergonomics.

The Typo lounge chair and ottoman from Mara are defined by the square-sectioned metal tube that form the support structure. Showcasing the brand’s expertise in metalworking, the graphic tube features an interaction of folds and creases that, at first glance could appear as a mistake – or typo – is actually a precisely crafted focal point.

To create this distinct characteristic, the skilled artisans at Mara first explored how to bend steel profiles and, with some unconventional finetuning, developed the unique effect – by bending a square-section steel tube along the diagonal, the material deforms in a way that leads to curling and sharp creases.

An intentional error, this wrinkled result lends the Typo lounge chair’s U-shaped support an unexpected look. Holding up and separating the seat and backrest, the bent steel tube terminates at a cross-cross base, which adds an additional visual impact.

The complementary Typo ottoman from Mara has its own playful personality, with its straight square-sectioned metal tube and criss-cross base. Both the Typo lounge chair and ottoman are padded and upholstered for extra comfort.

A dozen powder-coated RAL colour options are offered for the Typo lounge chair and ottoman, and a wide variety of upholstery fabrics and leathers are available.
