Mixing Pixels

Moooi Carpets celebrates the art of the remix with Ruben de Haas. Using the “liquify” filters in image editing software, the Dutch designer distorted existing Moooi rug designs to create entirely new compositions. With Bubble II (shown), he pinches and pulls Sjoerd Vroonland’s Bubble Oil into a pool of swirling colours rendered in polyamide. (And yes — de Haas secured Vroonland’s approval.)

Doblecara

Working with Nanimarquina, Ronan Bouroullec devised a collection that translates his lively line drawings into hand-spun Afghan wool. Each rug reverses to a more subdued side featuring the same pattern recreated with thinner strokes. Choose from four colourways, available in four sizes each.

Guadalupe

Hand-knotted in Nepal, Bethan Laura Wood’s collection for CC-Tapis takes inspiration from the stained-glass windows at Mexico City’s Our Lady of Guadalupe basilica. The end result is a trio of floor coverings (and one wall textile) that deliver an energetic burst of pattern and colour. Measuring 230 by 300 centimetres, Piñata (shown) is available in a blend of Himalayan wool and silk pile or in a version made from 100 per cent Himalayan wool.

Giro

Spanish studio MUT Design looked to spirograph toys to create this twisted floor art for GAN. Hand-tufted in India from pure wool, the rug undergoes three days of “scissor sculpting” to achieve the layered texture that delivers its rich sense of depth. Along with the 1.3-by-3.2-metre lilac rug shown, the collection also includes a wider style, as well as black, white and peach options.

Siroua

This wild wonder by Beni Rugs is a team effort created with two notable collaborators: NYC designer Tom Delavan and Morocco’s Siroua sheep. The breed’s uniquely shaggy hair allows for a pile that’s more than 10 centimetres high, ensuring an especially cozy sensation when walking barefoot. Nine standard size options offer lengths of up to 3.7 metres.
