After more than two decades of fruitful collaboration, brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec shocked the industry when they announced their professional split late last year. While both now operate independent product design studios, Ronan is becoming just as well-known for his art practice.
During its Fall/Winter 2024 menswear show in Paris this past January, fashion brand Homme Plissé Issey Miyake worked with him to reinterpret his brushstroke paintings and ballpoint pen drawings as clothing. Pleated fabrics built on the linear spirit of Ronan’s signature canvases, creating a fun interplay between artistic and material expression.
Some of the collection’s coats can even be folded into coordinating cushions, making them the perfect outerwear for anyone looking to rest their head during a long flight and then hit the ground in spectacular style.
Speaking of travel, Bouroullec fans would be wise to stop in Paris before September 23: Coinciding with the official kickoff of Ronan’s solo career, the Centre Pompidou is currently exhibiting “Résonance” — an inspiring showcase of his work across design, art and, now, fashion.
The French designer is on a mission to distinguish himself, starting with his recent collaboration with fashion brand Homme Plissé Issey Miyake.
