Harbourfront Centre’s KUUMBA: 2024, presented by TD Bank Group through the TD Ready Commitment, is Toronto’s largest and longest-running Black Futures Month festival, embracing the rich tapestry of culture, diversity and creativity through a month-long celebration of Black cultural programming. Through the harmonious integration of music, theatre, spoken word, dance and visual arts, KUUMBA transcends historical narratives of trauma and repression, igniting enthusiasm and cultivating an inclusive atmosphere that revolves around celebrating the boundless potential of the future in Black arts, cultures and societies.
In 2024, KUUMBA programming embodies the spirit of raising the voice, symbolizing the exhilaration of joyful expression. This year, Angie Thomas, Anne-Marie Woods, Dwayne Morgan, Jully Black and others share their voices and perspectives on navigating the complexities of the human experience as a Black person. Geoff Reyes and breakers from Breaking Canada and beyond express themselves through the movements of this dance-turned-Olympic sport. A month-long art exhibition and film festival rounds KUUMBA’s showcase of the beauty of voice found in all of its creative forms.
