OVERVIEW
One of the biggest draws of Cornell’s College of Architecture, Art and Planning (AAP) is the opportunity that B.Arch. students have to spend one semester of their third year in Rome. It’s part of the school’s dedication to providing undergrads with foundational, multidisciplinary experiences in the broader world. Likewise, the M.Arch program “situates itself internationally, drawing upon distinguished national and international visitors occupying AAP NYC’s studio, and traveling to locations worldwide in the studio context.” On campus, design studios at every level of their degree allow students to immerse themselves in current design culture and learn to communicate ideas through models and graphics; their resulting work demonstrates an ability to engage with today’s urgencies.
With the stated priorities of “Environment + Sustainability,” “Social Equity + Engagement,” and “Design + Emerging Technologies,” AAP celebrates architecture as a key tool, both creative and potent, for bettering the world, addressing design from a “social, ethical and artistic perspective.” In August 2022, the school demonstrated its commitment to a better society by welcoming Jen Delos Reyes, its Associate Dean for Diversity and Equity, as well as a new social justice cohort to push beyond academic excellence into equity and inclusion.
