The defining element on this punchy lounge chair is its backrest, woven from sailing rope. The piece was designed by Germany’s Sebastian Herkner, whom Azure spotted last year at the Salone, when Moroso introduced his plush Coat chair.

2 Oursin by Hella Jongerius for Vitra

This upbeat, colourful pouf comes in various mix-and-match combinations. We gave it a test-drive at the show, and it’s fair to say the backless seating is not too hard and not too soft. And there’s a nice little touch: a tag at the base so you can grab and drag Oursin to wherever you want to sit in a room.

3 Newcastle by Giulio Iacchetti for Meritalia

Meritalia always pushes the envelope by testing the furniture market’s appetite for kitsch. It is, afterall, the manufacturer of Gaetano Pesce’s Mini Car sofa. This time around, it presents a piece that stands out with the best of them: Newcastle, a sofa with a DuraForm cover. If the paper-based material, which is completely washable, looks familiar, that’s because it’s also used for jean labels.

4 TT by Ron Gilad for Adele-C

Ron Gilad continues to produce inspiring accent pieces for Adele-C, including his latest reductionist side tables called TT. They are made of metal with a wood shelf suspended in the middle.

5 Concentré de vie by Matali Crasset for Campeggi

French designer Matali Crasset’s latest couch for Campeggi, Concentré de vie, features plump cushions that can be removed from the base structure and used to create a lounge chair and ottoman. The seating set is just as fun as her Dynamic Life sofa for the quirky Italian manufacturer, which has cushions that unfold like fingers to create a bed.
