Like the rest of Cyclades, a group of Greek islands, Paros is known for its pristine beaches, white-washed architecture, charming tavernas, and surrounding cerulean waters. Kampos House, a recently completed vacation home by Lantavos Projects, in the Paros village of Kampos, takes advantage of its inspiring surroundings, offering unobstructed views of vineyards, olive groves and the sea from every window and terrace.
The firm sought to create a residence that felt at home amongst the typical buildings of the area but through “the prism of contemporary living,” avoiding any decoration or architectural elements that felt overly traditional. Architect Vangelis Lantavos used a rectangular box as his starting point, then deconstructed it to create new volumes, elements and sightlines. The result is an all-white concrete form with various geometries, designed for year-round use.
On the ground level, two boxy volumes recede to create a sheltered patio and entryway. One structure contains the common areas, while the other is dedicated to three bedrooms. Around the corner, an exposed exterior staircase leads to the rooftop terrace, where the firm has placed what it imagines as the “removed volume” created by the ground-level recession. With its own kitchenette and bathroom, it can be used as a private studio or guest quarters. Surrounding this space is the wide-open, 95-square-metre rooftop, perfect for taking in the dreamy Mediterranean vistas.
