Zeidler is seeking a Senior Architect to join their Toronto office and actively contribute to the design, delivery, and coordination of projects. Successful candidates can expect to work on all phases of their projects, from pre-design to site administration.
Zeidler is a Canadian architectural practice with offices in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and Victoria offering architectural and interior design services. The firm aims to design meaningful spaces that contribute to the community and deliver lasting value, and Senior Architects can expect to work on projects ranging across academic, healthcare, residential, mixed-use, commercial, cultural and civic sectors.
Responsibilities:
- Taking a strong role as the Senior Architect in the creation of designs including conception and development including preparing high quality design details and specifications
- Supervising the preparation of preliminary plans and detailed drawings for highly complex projects
- Developing design concepts and translating them into design documents during project phases
- Collaborating on client presentations and presents design concepts and drawings
- Providing instruction on specific design objectives, complex features, and solutions
- Providing direction in team meetings to ensure continuity of design intent
- Attending site meetings, performs shop drawing review and contract administrative support as required
- Working primarily with the Interiors team and occasionally with the Architectural teams as required
- Mentoring and coaching teams and individuals to develop their skills/ capacities and reach their potential
- Leading by effective communication, enabling channels of communication, providing effective feedback and being approachable/ supportive
- Supporting Principals in the preparation and conducting of employee performance reviews
- Overseeing project staffing and sets objectives and expectations for the team
- Being responsible for managing direct reports to ensure work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner
- Reviewing and approving direct reports’ timesheet
- Representing the firm in the industry to advance the company’s interest and profile
- Building the culture by role modeling the values of the organization
- Contributing to the development of proposals and business development for the studio
- Contributing to maintaining and improving strong policies, procedures and systems for the studio
- Maintaining strong presence in the professional association.
- Adhering to all health and safety policies and procedures established by the company
Qualifications:
- Degree in Architecture from a recognized post-secondary institution
- 10+ years of experience as an Architect
- Licensed with OAA or another Canadian architectural association
- Assure project compliance with architectural office procedures and related architectural drawing standards
- Contribute to the building design process from conceptual design to contract documents and site administration
- Full knowledge of local construction systems and related detailing including the integration of sustainable building design criteria
- LEED® AP and/or Certified Passive House Designer preferred
- Extensive experience with local city development and building permit process required
- Strong conceptual and design skills – creative drawing ability, 3D modeling and freehand sketch skills required
- Technical drawing ability – Revit and CAD required
- Ability to work in an open, collaborative workplace environment
- The ability to travel as needed; travel may include visiting client sites, attending meetings, participating in training sessions, and representing the company at industry events
