Developed by Werner Aisslinger in collaboration with Thonet for BaseCamp Lyngby, a student-housing project in Denmark aimed at being affordable as well as environmentally and socially beneficial, the 1140 table is multi-functional, versatile and elegantly simple.

Wanting to create a superbly stable table that could serve a multitude of purposes, Aisslinger created an unobtrusive support system for the expansive surface: using bridge-building principles, discreet die-cast aluminum fittings (with a polished finish or powder-coated anthracite grey) connect the legs and the tabletop, while leaving plenty of leg-room underneath.

The four solid oak legs have quarter-circle outer edges, which means there are no hard edges to bump against, even in tight spaces; further, when multiple tables are pushed together, the rounded design creates a channel for cables to run down the middle.

Available in four lengths – with uniform one-metre widths – the tabletop is made from blockboard and does not require a stabilizing frame even at its longest. 1140 is offered in varnished or lightened versions and can also be custom-coloured.
