Marking the 10th collaboration between designer Kelly Wearstler and The Rug Company, the Crescendo rug collection showcases the synthesis of design and craftsmanship and includes six rug patterns – Arwen, Runa, Spire, Riven, Elowen and Crux – in two colourways each.
For the Crescendo rug collection for The Rug Company, Kelly Wearstler took inspiration from music to explore the interplay between geometric forms and organic shapes. The result is six bold designs that create a visual movement reminiscent to musical rhythm. Made from a variety of natural materials – fine wool, silk, nettle and linen – the rugs in the Crescendo collection are hand-knotted by artisanal weavers in Nepal who use a combination of traditional techniques that lend the pieces a sculptural quality.

Expressing a visual motif akin to a checkerboard, Arwen features raised cut-pile silk squares on a wool and nettle blend base. This pattern is available in the warm and subtle Arwen Amber or the tonal greens of Arwen Moss.

With Runa, a layering of tonal squares creates a compelling trompe l’oeil effect. Hand-knotted in silk against a Tibetan wool base, the block patterned rug is available in Runa Clay, a warm neutral that blends terracotta tones with light apricots, and Runa Pistachio, which presents a spectrum of green tones.

A striking geometric with multiple angular perspectives, Riven features hand-knotted silk linework with a raised cut pile and is available with two bases: Riven Dune has an undyed nettle base and a natural warmth; Riven Alabaster has a lighter nettle and linen base that creates a chalky complexion.

Elowen has a lovely and rich texture that is achieved through a complex combination: the base starts with a nettle loop pile construction that then transitions to a cut-pile technique using wool and silk. Available in the rich clay tones of Elowen Peony and the warmer sandy hue of Elowen Sandstone.

With a modern collage-like design, Spire features asymmetric silk formations that dance across a loop pile nettle base and offer both tactile and visual contract. Available in Spire Birch, which has an undyed nettle base in shades of tan silk, and Spire Ember, a contrast of lustrous brown silk against a lightened nettle base.

On Crux, a hypnotic motif of gradient silk blocks creates a strong expression with tonal variations. A hand-knotted white wool base divides the shimmering triangular shapes and is available in Crux Cognac with cool, metallic hues and Crux Auburn with warmer champagne tones.
