The Designtex Digital Studio recently added seven new patterns to its already wide-ranging portfolio of textiles and wallcoverings. An easy-to-use online tool, the Designtex Digital Studio allows designers and architects to create and customize textile and wallcovering designs by pairing a substrate (for wallcovering, upholstery, vertical panel or mixed use applications) with a pattern, that can then be tailored for scale and colourway and then visualized in a number of scenarios before ordering.
Inspired by both the meditative practice of drawing and natural phenomena like rainfall, dappled light, meteors and cosmic cycles, the seven new patterns added to the Designtex Digital Studio are: Plumb, Linework, Verse, Daydreamer, Wade, DS Orbit and Hoba.
Maine-based artist, designer, carpenter and craftsman Joe Kievitt contributed two of the new patterns – Plumb and Linework. Reminiscent of hand-drawn blueprints, Plumb is a simple yet impactful geometric design available in four scales in which either the background or sketch-like lines can be dominant.
Linework, meanwhile, is a reinvention of the classic checkerboard pattern featuring frustum-like shapes arranged in alternating orientation that were inspired by multi-pencil drawings; dominant and accent colours can be combined to achieve either a light or bold look.
With a subtle nod to the structure of a musical score, Verse is a medley of fine lines in different thicknesses, lengths, direction and weight. Suitable for use in ancillary spaces, hospitality settings and wellness venues, the attention-grabbing graphic is available in four scales.
A fresh interpretation of Designtex’s Ikat Spot wallcovering, Daydreamer features a 10-colour palette with varying degrees of transparency. Evoking water, clouds and dappled light, this biophilic-inspired design can be customized for overall balance or to draw attention to specific clusters and is available in three scales.
Another biophilic pattern, Wade has the appearance of a topographical waterways map made by woodblock print, with delicately outlined organic shapes and carved lines spreading across its surface. It is available in four scales.
Referencing rainfalls and cosmic cycles, DS Orbit brings natural phenomena indoors. Lending an organic quality to circular shapes and accenting each with various colours, the pattern has a compelling texture and distinctive appearance. Available in two scales.
With Hoba, natural elements are combined with architectural forms with stunning results. Ideal for applications in hospitality and wellness spaces, the pattern can be customized to emphasize either the structural elements or the dynamic diagonal lines they create. Available in six scales.
