With the launch of its Linea collection, Armadillo expands its design portfolio with patterned rugs for the first time. Translating time-honoured techniques for contemporary living, the new series approaches traditional rug motifs with sensitivity and restraint while focusing on the handcrafted processes and materiality.
The Linea collection from Armadillo includes seven patterns – Allegra, Adagio, Basilica, Minuet, Sonata, Latitude and Odessa – with each expressing its own identity that has been shaped by oxidisation, tonal depth and the natural irregularities that define handcrafted artefacts.
A modern diffusion of traditional border and medallion motifs, Allegra has a lovely lived-in and relaxed presence. Hand-knotted using centuries-old Persian techniques, the cut pile is trimmed to soften its structure and lend it an inviting tactility. The warm Cinnamon colour complements its graceful shading and artisanal appeal.
Adagio reimagines the intricate motifs of antique textiles through a modern lens. Hand-knotted from pure wool, the surface is oxidised so that the fibres gently tighten and curl to give it an authentic timeworn quality. Available in Neptune, a tonally pale colour that allows its compelling texture to shine.
Hand-knotted in wool on a cotto warp, Basilica in the Linea collection from Armadillo achieves a lovely chromatic depth through intricate clipping and expert finishing. A modern interpretation of the classic medallion rug, it is offered in an earthy Clove with nuanced inflections of green, while the lightly textured cut pile and considered detailing highlight its heritage references.
Linear clipping creates a gentle rippling effect across the cut-pile of Minuet, with its intentionally understated abstract pattern allowing tones and texture to carry through. Offered in the serene Skylark colour, the velvety rug is woven from wool on a cotton warp and has a pleasing sense of calm rhythm.
The pattern of Sonata emerges gradually through the natural striation of hand-spun Afghan wool, with a fine pile and lower knot count contributing a supple and expressive grid-like texture. The two neutral tones offered for the rug – Plume and Wisp – deepen the natural variation of the yarn and give it a layered and atmospheric feel.
The Linea collection from Armadillo also introduces a fine flat-weave rug constructed entirely from linen – Latitude. As the hand-spun yarns dip and rise, the surface takes on a subtle dimensionality to create a consistent plane with quiet variation. The curated two-hue palette includes the cool and calm Beluga and the richer Caramel, both of which showcase the inherent lustre and exceptional hand feel of the fibres.
A long-standing favourite, Odessa has been added to the Linea collection from Armadillo and appointed with three new colours – Banksia, Patridge and Travertine (with existing hues Arborio and Caraway still offered and Zinc and Kohl now available with custom sizing). Hand-knotted from Afghan wool, Odessa is defined by the natural striations that run through the pile, which gives each rug its own distinct character.
All seven of the rugs in the Linea collection from Armadillo are available in three sizes, with some offering the opportunity for custom sizing as well.
