When devising the new Missiva collection for Viccarbe, Italian designer Luca Pevere explored the essential idea of connections, the interactions between the elements of the system itself and between those that use it.
The first collaboration between Pevere and the Italian brand, Missiva derives its name from the Italian word for letter, which is reflected in the seating’s defining detail — distinctive stitching on the backs and sides that resembles the flap of an envelope.
A completely configurable seating system, Missiva includes modules that can create individual lounge chairs, sofas in varying lengths (75, 150 and 200 centimetres), backless benches and pouffes that can be combined together to effortlessly adapt to different scales, settings and needs; arrangements include L- or U-shaped compositions, enclosed islands, long liner sequences and more.
Expressing a strong visual cohesion, the elements in the Missiva collection from Viccarbe share a refined silhouette defined by soft lines, which are complemented by slender metal legs (in white, black or polished aluminum); the legs themselves are set at a deliberate height that allow for easy cleaning underneath, strengthening the system’s suitability for high-traffic settings like hotel lobbies, workspaces, cultural venues and corporate and institutional settings.
The defining envelope detail introduces an opportunity for project-specific customization as it allows designers to create monochromatic compositions in leather or fabric, or with the leather on the interior or exterior for tactile contrast; the fabric or leather colours can also be cohesive or contrasting. The upholstered volumes can be integrated with optional USB connections: an under-seat power box or embedded within the upholstery.
Completing the Missiva collection is a low table in four sizes whose oak plywood surface is offered in five stained finishes: Bleached, Matte, Cognac, Walnut and Ash. The tables’ aluminum legs are available in the same three finishes as the seating legs for consistency.
