Danish industrial designer Cecilie Manz delivers the Monolit chair for Fritz Hansen, a lounging and dining chair with a distinct character and monolithic shape.

With comfort top of mind, designer Cecilie Manz appointed her Monolit chair with an enveloping and protective back that embraces and supports the sitter for long periods; the cocooning-effect also creates a sense of personal space within a room.

Composed of two defined yet complementary proportions – the open horseshoe-shaped base and embracing top – the sculptural silhouette of the Monolit chair is composed of a sturdy plywood shell that is padded, upholstered and detailed with full-grain leather piping, which helps define the contour of the seat and lends it a tailored appearance.

The generous proportions of the Monolit chair combined with a subtle recess in its arm profiles allows sitters to move around and change positions within its supportive confines, ensuring a comfortable seat throughout a lingering dinner or social gathering.

Offered in two seat heights (45 centimetres for the dining version and 40 centimetres for the lounge), the Monolit chair is suitable for use in private homes as well as in restaurants, lobby spaces, informal meeting rooms and more.

Adding to its versatility is a selection of upholstery textiles chosen by Cecilie Manz that include various densities, tactilities and colours. While the exterior of the chair is monotone to accentuate its shape, the interior can be covered in a matching or contrasting fabric to achieve different expressions. Twelve specific colour and textile combinations are available with the option to customize using Fritz Hansen’s extensive upholstery fabric library. The accent piping can be the full-grain leather or in the same fabric as the upholstery for a cohesive look.
