When devising the Parhelion acoustic wall feature for Aectual, Dutch designer Mae Engelgeer was inspired by parhelia, the atmospheric phenomenon in which bright spots appear beside the sun with rainbow-like radiance.

With Parhelion from Aectual – Engelgeer’s first 3D-printed design for the company – that solar occurrence plays out in the acoustic wall feature’s layered, gradient-like surfaces and rich beguiling colours.

Expressing Engelgeer’s signature style of refined and thoughtful colour palettes, dynamic patterns and linear composition, the Parhelion acoustic wall features is as much a piece of artwork as it is functional sound solution.

Three exclusive palettes were developed by the designer for the series, with each one combining three complementary tones. Each circular piece is 3D printed using Aectual’s specialized on-demand manufacturing process and, since the individual colours are blended during printing, no two designs are exactly alike but all have an impactful and graphic presence. To enhance the acoustic quality of the pieces, they are backed by acoustic PET felt in a contrasting colour.

The three distinct palettes that comprise the Parhelion acoustic wall features are: Alpha, a soft sandy tone; Delta, a mix of deep pinks and purples; and Omega, a rich jewel-like blue tone.

A beautiful fusing of art and acoustics, the Parhelion acoustic wall features from Aectual are suitable for use in commercial and hospitality venues and workspaces as well as at private homes. Made from recycled, plant-based 3D-printed plastics and recycled PET felt, the artful pieces are also sustainable and eco-minded.

Parhelion is available in two standard sizes – a large circle with a 150-centimetre diametre and a smaller version with a 75-centimetre diametre – each of which can be used alone as a statement piece or grouped together in playful arrangements.
