Originally designed by Danish icon Poul Kjærholm in 1954, the PK23 lounge chair was recently introduced by Fritz Hansen. The sculptural design is a radical expression of moulded plywood and features a double shell seat and finely crafted metal detailing.

Designed by Poul Kjærholm when he was only 25 years old, the PK23 lounge chair from Fritz Hansen is the result of the designers’ exploration into plywood and industrial techniques, and was a precursor to his later steel pieces.

The PK23 lounge chair was groundbreaking for its time and represented a more democratic and accessible design in Kjærholm’s portfolio.

Defined by its linear contour and seemingly floating structure, the PK23 lounge chair boasts a simple frame, precise detailing and a radical treatment of plywood.

Working closely with Kjærholm’s wife and children, Fritz Hansen has realized this early work based on the designer’s own drawings and was first manufactured for a retrospective exhibition at Denmark’s Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in 2006. Now, the informal and low-slung PK23 lounge chair meets modern-day ways of living, working and relaxing.

The PK23 lounge chair from Fritz Hansen is available in four variants: clear-lacquered oak or walnut veneer with stainless steel legs, black ash with brushed stainless-steel legs or black powder-coated stainless-steel legs.
