The AZURE Houses issue returns in 2026 with stunning, innovative residential projects from Canada and around the world. Plus, we take a look at that seeming relic of the past: the mall.

Resident Plane Table is made of stacked wood modules

New Zealand furniture and product designer Jamie McLellan (who is also head of design for sustainable shoe brand Allbirds) was drawn to aspects of both contemporary and brutalist architecture when developing his Plane dining table for furniture company Resident

Comprised of slabs of hefty timber stacked in a seemingly precarious way, the table is held together through clever (and concealed) engineering: internal brackets hidden within the blocks of wood affix the legs, cross beam and tabletop to one another, creating an alter-like volume that is as sculptural as it is functional.

Available in rectangular and round formats in multiple sizes for each, Resident’s Plane dining tables are made from solid oak and offered in natural or umber stain finishes. A coffee table version is also available.
