For his recent series of elegant tables for Ligne Roset, Belgian design Alain Gilles took inspiration from a somewhat unexpected source – the architecture of large-scale brutalist motorway bridges.

With Saragosse, the supporting piers are translated into four circularly arranged feet, with a bevelled edge marking the transition from base to surface similar to a major motorway interchange.

The rigorous design also presents two contrasting materials – solid ash wood and stone – as one sculptural form, subtly detailed with curves and bevels. Saragosse is offered as an occasional table and a coffee table with black ashes bases and an Indian Green or Marron Emperador marble top.
